First-year students of Çankırı Karatekin University’s Social Work Department—Merve Bayraktar, Irmak Çelik, Hanife Kırdağ, and Yasemin Kaygusuz—carried out a meaningful social responsibility project under the guidance of Dr. Hazal Swearinger, as part of their Civil Society and Social Work course. On March 15, 2025, in collaboration with the İnci Taneleri Association, the students organized a pompom workshop for adults with intellectual disabilities.
This activity aimed to develop fine motor skills, support hand-eye coordination, and foster sensory development, while also enhancing the participants’ opportunities for social interaction. The workshop, which was met with great enthusiasm and happiness by the participants, featured the creation of door hangers, tree ornaments, various animal figures (such as birds, lambs, roosters, and rabbits), and smiley-face themed items using pompoms.
It was announced that the handmade products created during the event will be offered for sale in the future. The proceeds will be used to support social events within the association, with the goal of encouraging the active participation of individuals with disabilities.
